hooray, new updates for those who feel the need to be updated. today.
This song is fucking bonkers. Here’s a guy who started out on No Limit (yes, Master P’s label) then got involved with Cash Money at a transitional point, may have ghostwrote for Lil’ Wayne (among others) and also made up a clothes company/crew that was supposedly stolen from him by Terry Kennedy?!? Only to make another crew/company, get another deal and form a secret group with Mos Def and Jay Electronica funded by Dame Dash?!?? Say, WHAT???? All of what I said is true about the rapper up above and the truth hurts that much more when you see that this is a mixtape song. My brother told me that this was a Wakka Flocka beat (I would have never known) and everybody knows what the fuck a Jets is by now. His style on the song is straight ridiculous, no one is really doing it like that in those circles. He says a lot of clever shit too, all song long. He even brings back nostalgic shit like Monte Carlo Super Sports, smoking joints versus blunts, Nintendo™ and whole songs dedicated to rapping about weed. I’m down for all of this because I don’t feel like I HAVE to instantly rap about codeine and cocaine.
In other news, the internet is going nuts with all this new music that you may not find out about until the artist in question is doing something for Red Bull or Scion. The stuff I have been feeling on a random level has been these 2 folks in particular. Jai Paul and How To Dress Well are both on some “one man army” shit and seem to be making up a new style that some ambitious folk have already thought of as new R&B. I’m not going to agree with all of that, but I think that the stuff is great and the dudes make enjoyable music. I am referring to How To Dress Well since Jai Paul has one song for you to trip off of. There was a time where being a “one hit wonder” was a bad thing, now you can basically pay your rent off of the thing. Another duo making the internet turn into squiggly lines is Spoek Mathambo and VerBS. While the former hails from South Africa and the latter from West Los Angeles, both dudes do the duty in breathing new life into the calcified game that we all have grown to play so well. Another dude who is on some “never say die” shit is the homie Malkovich. OG BLX member and westsider, this guy has been banging out hits on a bi-weekly basis for the past few months (complete with lyrics) via his blog Malkovich Music. He drops too many hits for me to cover here, that’s more blogs than I intend to write at the moment! However, all the stuff is banging and half of his posted songs are flips of songs you would rather hear a fresh emcee on anyway. Another new thing in the making is the homies Champagne 4 Caesar, their new stuff is on some straight angel dust soul business. Willie Green just dropped a new record that can be banged anywhere like a down-ass chick The dude Megabusive has a bunch of stuff popping off at Isolated Wax that you should be up on AND Nasa from Uncommon Records keeps dropping those hits almost every single day.
God Bless the internet.
